Before you build a wind turbine you first need to think about its location. You have to be confident that when you build a windmill it will catch enough wind to make electricity. An average wind speed of 10mph is needed to power your homemade windmill and make electricity.

If you live in a built-up area or are surrounded by trees or hills, you may find there is not enough wind to power the homemade windmill. However, wind power technologies are being rapidly developed and are advancing all the time.

Nowadays, there is loads of information on the Internet which can help you build a windmill and show you everything you need to know to how to build a wind turbine. I have briefly outlined in a few steps what is involved in building your own wind turbine.

1.	The first thing you need to build a windmill is a generator, it is possible to make a generator at home but it sounds awfully complicated to me and unless you have experience with this sort of thing I recommend buying one. Especially, if this is your first attempt of building your own wind turbine. If you can’t find a generator a DC motor will do. You need a motor which has a high current, a high DC voltage and low rpms.

2.	The next thing your homemade windmill needs are blades. Some people carve their blades from wood, or cut them from sections of PVC pipe. There are web sites which detail how to do this on good build a wind turbine web sites.

3.	Now to build a windmill, you need something to bolt the blades onto and attach a motor to. You have to drill some holes into a metal disc large enough to accommodate your blades when you bolt them down. Attached a toothed pulley that fits the motor to the back of this metal disc. Put it all together and bolt the blades on.

4.	When you build a windmill, you need to create something to mount the blades onto. This will have a tail to turn the DIY wind turbine when the wind changes direction. You can use a plank of wood and fix the motor to one end (the end facing outwards will connect to the motor) and the tail fixed to the other end. You can use metal or any material sturdy enough to catch the wind and swing your turbine around.

5.	To build a wind turbine you need to make a tower which will elevate your DIY wind turbine and catch more wind. To build the tower, cut out a base and you can use pipes and pipe fittings to connect the tower to the wood which the blades are mounted onto. The pipes also make an excellent bearing which will allow to top part to move.

6.	Now for the electrical stuff involved when you build a wind turbine. You will need: some batteries which will store energy the DIY wind turbine produces, a blocking diode which saves energy being wasted powering the turbine, and a charge controller which runs everything. You can buy these easily from alternative energy suppliers or there is always eBAY.

If you want to have a go at building your own wind turbine but would prefer to make it using bought step-by-step instructions written by experts, read a review here: How To Build A Wind Turbine

Where can I learn about the engineering of a wind turbine setup capable of producing 110V AC current?

I am exploring the idea of building a wind turbine to generate household current. My goal is not to go “off grid”, but to find out if it would be cost effective to generate any portion of my electricity needs. I have already checked and I have no zoning restrictions from mounting a tower. I know that there are commercial products one can purchase but I started my educational career as an Electrical Engineering major 20 years ago and I would much rather try to learn about what it takes to actually do this than buy a packaged solution first. My plan is:
1. Learn about concepts
2. Design a solution
3. Research equipment
4. Perform cost/benefit analysis

I've been searching for a site and all I can find is sites that either sell stuff or have high school science experiment level stuff that can light up flashlight bulbs. I know that when you are talking about 110VAC/10A level power you are in a whole different world. I never got into the power classes before I switched majors but I think I can handle the concepts if I find a good source to read.

(BTW…I have access to 2 EE's I can ask questions of if I get stuck who will be reviewing my design. They don't know any sites, though both have offered their college textbooks “if that will help.” They've offered to teach me but I would rather do some of the leg work myself first.)

Thanks for any help provided.

Wind Energy is garnering a lot of attention in today’s world of poor economical situations for many people. The vertical wind turbine may be just what the doctor ordered in terms of heating water and providing electricity to our homes.

The vertical wind turbine itself is near the ground, unlike horizontal axis wind turbines where everything is high on a tower. There are two types of vertical axis wind turbines; lift based and drag based. If the height of the rooftop mounted turbine tower is approximately 50% of the building height, this is near the optimum for maximum wind energy and minimum wind turbulence. Requiring less space and no towers, the vertical axis turbine will undoubtedly become a regular part of clean energy landscapes in the future.

There are also ways to make your own wind turbine utilizing materials that you can pick up at the hardware store for not much money at all. You can order or download the instructions to make it in a small amount of time. In fact, there are reports that you can make this money saving, energy producing product for less than $220. This may sound laughable to some but there are many who are saving at least around $180 per month on their energy bills.

Many people used to think that providing electricity to one’s home via a wind turbine would be impossible and the cost really can run upwards of $5000 if you were to hire a contractor. Many may feel the need to do this but there it is now not necessary for you to see the rewards of wind turbine energy.

There are so many things that we can do to protect the environment and conserve our bank accounts as well. More and more people are becoming aware of the environmental needs today and they are looking into the various methods of doing their part.

We can do so much to help both the environment and our wallets and if we only take the time to research the proper ways we will be able to see what is needed to be done. A vertical wind turbine will do this and you will not have to worry about it being an eye-sore in the neighborhood.

More and more individual homes and farms produce free electricity and soon personal windmills may be the only way that people are heating their water in their homes. There are more things that we can do for our homes as well, but for something that you can make yourself, this wind energy items works rather well.

Whether it is a vertical wind turbine or another energy saving contraption, we are all going to be best served to look into the various methods of saving on our energy bills. Many people feel as if there is so much to choose from that they just do not which items to decide on. Well, now with the great price of this one, you can be rest assured that there will be many who are trying it out.

If you don’t have a <ahref ="http://www.squidoo.com/Make-Wind-Turbine">vertical wind turbine then don’t delay any longer and reduce your energy bills by clicking the link below:-
</ahref><ahref ="http://www.howtomakeyourhousegreen.com/wind-turbine">vertical Wind Turbine</ahref>

Wind Turbines and Windmills in Europe

Europe is one of the highest rated countries concerning the use of wind turbines. Wind turbines generate more electricity for Europe as an alternative source of energy than the United States.

European Wind turbine manufacturers work diligently to make improvements. By letting consumers have a better understanding of the wind turbine and how it works. As well as how many wind turbines are already supplying an alternate source of energy for Europe.

European agencies believe that wind turbines not only have the potential to satisfy a much needed energy demand, but also have a significant and vital role in households and the economy. The energy battle will be won by those countries of the world that embrace a strategy of developing, deploying and exporting alternative energy solutions. The wind turbine is that solution, to a world that cannot afford to live without energy.

In fact, in Europe Wind farms are more correctly called wind power plants. More than ten percent of Europe today has this alternative energy source, the wind turbine. Most small homes and businesses are encouraged to invest in this alternative in an effort to conserve energy resources.

Europe contains the largest concentration of wind turbines. With nearly one percent of the nation’s 5 million inhabitants owning a wind turbine or have a share in a wind turbine. Europeans excel over many of the smaller places that are just realizing the use of wind turbines, and the benefits of the machines.

After years of playing second fiddle to mainstream power sources, Europe’s renewable energy sector is now going from strength to strength, outnumbering wind turbines in the United States. Europe is setting the example. By the means of wind turbine plants being set into action all over the country of Europe.

According to statistics, 40% of the world’s wind farms over the next eight years will be controlled by Europe. As 13 of the 20 largest wind power markets are already located in Europe. Wind turbine power is essentially the same for creating electricity in Europe as it is in the United States; however Europe uses this alternate energy resource more.

Manufacturers in Europe operate much like those found in the United States. The same technology and performance of the wind turbine is basically the foundation for these companies too. The Wind turbine does differ in Europe in some ways, according to the wind indifference and gusts. But, Eastern Europe is pegged to grow by 33% annually in the wind turbine industry.

Many home owners in Europe consider buying a windmill for their home an investment, much like buying a car or anything else. Wind turbines are as common to them as cars. Yet in the United States it is a slower process. Europeans use the vertical axis windmill without even giving it a second thought. They already know the benefits of using the machine and the lower cost of living it enhances by saving on electrical expenses.

Wind turbines in Europe are beneficial to their economy as well as to the environment. This they take very seriously, according to the percentage of those wind turbines currently in Europe. Giving a better understanding of the statistics and resources of what the wind Turbine includes

Energy is so expensive these days wouldn’t it be nice to stop receiving high electric bills? Find out if <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank"href=http://residential-windmills.com/2008/03/09/the-evolution-of-the-vertical-windmill-to-the-electricity-windmill/>windmill power is right for you

Wind is a renewable source of energy. It is able to produce electricity by way of converting inherent energy of the wind with the help of a generator in the wind turbine. It emits pollutants as such of any kind and would be availed by us as long as the wind exists, i.e. for a very long period of time.

As a person, with conscience, you can do your bit for the environment, apart from saving some money on the utility bills. As it is, residential wind turbines might turn out to be a big help in this regard. Often nicknamed as small wind, such turbines have been designed to work at a per home basis. Now, given the correct conditions, a residential turbine might generate all the electricity, which you would require and more. As a matter of fact, your generator would be hooked up with the utility grid and this way, you might actually sell the additional power to the utility in case you produce more power than what you need.

In case of a usual residential application, a residence is served concurrently by wind turbine, as well as local utility. In case the wind speeds get below the cut-in speed, then there would be no output from this turbine and the entire required power is bought from the utility. As the wind speeds go up, then in that case, the amount of power, which is bought from the utility, gets decreased proportionately. In case the turbine generates more power than what is required by the house, then this extra electricity gets sold to the utility. This is all done automatically. In the modern residential wind systems, there are no batteries, as such.

A wind turbine usually lowers down your electricity bill by around 50 to 90 percent. In fact, it is not quite usual for wind turbine owners, to get total-electric homes monthly utility bills of just $8 to $15; that too for around nine months in a year. In the northern parts of the nation where lesser air conditioning is required, the bills might be very low all through the year. The amount of money, which a residential wind turbine may save you on the long run, would depend upon the cost, the number of units of electricity which you use, the mean speed prevalent in your site, as well as other factors. However, a residential wind turbine might be a relatively larger device and would not be suitable for urban as well as small-lot suburban homes.
