Save Money by Making your own Renewable Energy Generator

france dave and sarah

I live in rural France, and over here some 90 % of electricity comes from nuclear power. It is expensive, and I have concerns about its safety and the long term environmental effects, and I don’t want to be at the mercy of a monopolistic state-owned utility.

So I started looking for alternatives, and i researched loads of things on the internet about solar power and wind power and geothermal power and solar powered hot water, and it all sounded really good, but then it came down to the practicalities of doing it.

I am an average guy – I can use a spanner and screw driver and can get on the roof and do things but that’s about it – and most of the stuff I found needed a skill level way beyond me.

And then I found the book … Home Made Energy.

Home Made Energy showed me how to make my own energy from solar and wind power, and install the system in my home – without it costing me thousands !

When it gets down to it, lets be realistic, its only worth doing if the whole package- generation, storage, installation – costs less than you save paying your supplier.

Right now the reduction in my electricity bill is more than I have spent on the whole system.

Home Made Energy gave me simple, easy to follow, instructions on how to build everything I needed for both solar power and wind power.

It includes:

  • where to get cheap solar cells

  • how to build my own solar panel ($170 and 6 hours !)

  • how to install the system myself (saving several 000s !)

Where I live in Northern France wind power is a real alternative power source and Home Made Energy gave me full instructions on how to build a wind turbine and install the electricity generation system into the house, including :

  • what components I needed and where to get them from

  • full schematics and instructions on how to put them together

  • what type of system I needed and how to install it

Do you know Home Made Energy identifies 3 types of system, ?

- one for a small scale unit like a workshop

- one for a house where you don’t have any connection to a grid and you need a storage system

- one where you have a connection to a grid and you use that to "bank" your unused power That’s the one I have

 - its fun watching my electricity meter actually go backwards !!

One of the really neat things about the book is this, if you have put it together then you know how to fix it if it goes wrong, you don’t have to rely on some expensive guy from a company who’s put it all together to come out and fix it – and we all know what that’s like !!

The book is really easy to use and follow, I reckon it cost me about $150 and about 5 hours to put my first wind power generator together.

If you want to cut your power bills, be independent and self-reliant, and even help save the environment and make your contribution to cutting greenhouse gasses and slowing global warming, then this book is as good a place to start as any.
